MISSION STATEMENT
MODERNCINÉ is dedicated to making high-quality films by
telling stories that are edgy and groundbreaking. The only limit
we place on ourselves is to avoid clichés and complacency
in favor of original ideas and memorable performances. We strive

Andrew van den Houten
Andrew van den Houten began his career in front of the camera
as a child actor, performing in TV commercials in his native New
York City. While still in his teens, Andrew hosted a pilot for
Nickelodeon and was a familiar face on the stand-up comedy circuit
in New York City. A film graduate of Boston's Emerson College,
he marked his freshman year by producing and co-starring in the
independent feature film "Alma Mater." The film was
honored with the Audience Award at the 2002 Austin Film Festival.
Andrew founded MODERNCINÉ during his junior year of college.
He has always envisioned the company as an ideal vehicle for showcasing
both his own creativity and that of his colleagues. MODERNCINÉ's
first film production, "Inherent Darkness and Enlightenment,"
was written, directed and produced by Andrew.
After graduation, Andrew returned to New York where he produced
and directed a number of award-winning short films, plus a variety
of different television commercials. In 2005, he directed "Headspace,"
MODERNCINÉ's first full-length feature.
“Headspace” was an official selection of the Brussels International
Fantasy Film Festival, a multiple award-winner at the New York
City Horror Film Festival, and winner of the Best Monster Movie
award at the World Horror Convention in San Francisco. It is available
nationwide on DVD at all major retailers and recently played in
heavy rotation on the Showtime Channel and Starz/Encore. Andrew’s
“Headspace - Director’s Cut” is being aired on NBC/Universal’s
Chiller Network this fall and coming out on DVD in 2010.
After “Headspace,” Andrew produced Jack Ketchum's "The Girl
Next Door," currently available at all major retailers in
the U.S. and internationally. The film is based on the controversial
best-selling novel by Jack Ketchum, The Girl Next Door. In 2009
"Offspring," a film he directed and produced based on
the Jack Ketchum novel of the same name, was distributed by Sam
Raimi’s company, Ghosthouse Underground and Lionsgate.
Through MODERNCINÉ, Andrew also produced two other feature
films released in 2009 by IFC Films: "Made For Each Other,"
starring Christopher Masterson and Bijou Phillips, also starring
Danny Masterson, Lauren German, Samm Levine with George Segal
and Patrick Warburton, and "Home Movie" starring Adrian
Pasdar ("Heroes") and Cady McClain; written and directed
by Christopher Denham.
Currently, Andrew has co-founded Doberman Entertainment, a company
completely focused on developing and producing family themed content.
The first project being released in 2010 is “Rising Stars,” directed
by Daniel Millican, starring Kyle Riabko, with Barry Corbin and
Fisher Stevens.
